Sexual Harassment and other New Legislation

October 2024 saw the introduction of new statutory obligations for Councils to prevent sexual harassment of their Employees, not just from within the Council but also members of the public.  This includes the need to update policies and procedures, consult with staff, conduct essential training for Employees and Councillors, and take ‘reasonable steps’ to protect the Council from claims of Harassment at an Employment Tribunal.

This will also cover the following that are in the Employment Rights Bill:

1 The right to claim Unfair Dismissal from day one.

2 Increased statutory sick pay for low earners, including part time clerks, community centre staff, landscapers and litter pickers.

3 Abolition of zero hours staff, which could affect zero hours seasonal grass cutters.

4 Removal of the ability of Cllrs to contact Council staff outside of working hours.
